함미나 Mina Ham

서울에서 활동하는 서양화가 함미나는 첫 개인전 〈Wave Height, Seojin Artspace〉(2017)를 시작으로 〈Unfamiliar Face〉(2018), 〈Node of Sleep〉(2018), 〈Where is Bushman?〉(2019), 〈Lower genre〉(2019)까지 5번의 개인전을 개최해왔다. 다수의 단체전에도 참여하였으며 서울, 홍콩 등에서 활발하게 작품을 발표하고 있다. 2020년 3월에 서울 아티스트 런 스페이스 별관에서 개인전을 앞두고 있다.


Seoul-based Western-style painter Mina Ham has presented her work in five different solo shows starting with Wave Height, Seojin Artspace(2017) — followed by Unfamiliar Face(2018), Node of Sleep(2018), Where is Bushman?(2019), and Lower genre(2019). She also took part in multiple group shows and actively introduces her works in Seoul and Hong Kong. Her upcoming solo exhibition will be held at Seoul Artist Run Space Annex in March 2020.

물기를 머금고 사는 사람들 Waterfront Workers

함미나는 유년 시절 기억의 관계에 연관을 두고 발화되지 않는 이야기를 그린다. 고향인 동해와 부산에서 지낸 유년 시절의 지리적
영향이 작가의 작업과 밀접하게 이어져 있다. 해안가 지역에서 자라고 만났던 사람들의 희미한 기억, 부모의 직업환경으로 인해 마주친 러시아 선원들의 모습을 그린다. 모두가 물기를 머금고 사는 사람들이다. 이 작업은 특정한 장소, 계절, 인물, 희미한 흔적들을 떠올릴 수 있는 수단이 된다. 과거의 기억과 현재, 미래에서까지 이어지는 감정의 영겁이다.

Mina Ham paints unspoken stories about the relationship between herself and her childhood. Two cities have closely connected to her work — Donghae, her hometown and Busan where she stayed as a child.
She paints based on subtle memories of whom she met near the waterfront and Russian sailors she
encountered in her parents’ work environment. They are all Waterfront Workers (people living in wetness).
This process becomes the means for reminding faint traces of specific place, season and subject.
Her paintings carry perpetual emotions, connecting memories from the past, present and future.
